Improve Your USANA Presentation Skills (IG #113)

This month's USANA training podcast answers questions sent it from USANA Associates. If you ever have a question about USANA training, please leave a comment or email to us and we'll try our best to answer it in a future podcast.

USANA Question #1: "How Do I Learn More About the USANA Products?"

Here's an email I received from a USANA Associate:

Hi Chris,

I hope it's ok to email you my question.

I'm trying to learn more about the Usana products.  I found some youtube clips, but I find them very "vague"

The other day, someone asked me what Proflavonal C is good for and all I could say was it's a "potent" anti-oxidant.  So then what's the difference between that and the Anti-Oxidant in the Essentials?

And I still don't know what that booster in the Healthpak is.  I just know it's another anti-oxidant.  So I'm taking 3 different anti-oxidants.

And I'm taking Coquine 100 because, someone said "active" people should take it.  Weird.

I want to be able to suggest products, and also explain to them why, and the benefits.

Are you able to suggest somewhere I could learn more detail about the products?

Many thanks!

---- end email ----

Great question! Jason Wells and I spend the first 14 minutes of our USANA training podcast (episode #113) answering the question.

USANA Question #2: "How Do I Improve My Presentation Skills and Retailing Skills?"

This question goes into one our most favorite topics: sales and communication training! A key point to understand is that you're always improving your skills. Even after 10+ years with USANA, we're constantly improving our skills and getting better.

At 13:45 of the USANA training podcast, Jason and I start answering this question. As usual, there is no simple answer to this question. We cover various tips that we have learned over the years and also discuss common pit falls that we see USANA Associates make.

As part of your USANA foundation, make sure you study our USANA Sales and Communication Course and our Getting USANA Customers Course. Both courses will really help build your USANA skill set.

USANA Hub: Getting The Most Out of the Initial Rollout

Just a couple of days ago USANA released their Hub system. I've already received quite a few emails and Facebook messages asking about my opinion on it and how to best incorporate the new technology into a person's USANA business.

First Impression: A Big Move In the Right Direction!

USANA is continuing down the road of personalization and customization in regards to their tools. Which the is right move to make because that's how the trends are going. People are wanting everything personalized to them! We have Google, Facebook, and YouTube to thank for that. I wrote a detailed blog post, "Is the Traditional Health and Freedom Presentation Outdated?" that goes into much more detail on the personalization trend. I've had a tremendous response from that post! It's worth the time reading it.

Hold Off On Diving Into The Hub

USANA is doing a major update to the system. There will be some BIG speed bumps along the way. That's just the nature of any major system rollout. Here's a tip that will save you time and frustration: Don't dive into it immediately! I never download the latest iPhone updates immediately, software updates or use newly rolled out systems and platforms... because there will be issues! This comment has nothing to with USANA, it's just a tip to keep in mind for any major system and software updates.  Let the IT department and other people spend countless hours working out the bugs. I'm spending me time on building my business.

Now, I did spend an hour this morning looking through the Hub so I could share additional tips with you. It was a frustrating hour. Many features and pages wouldn't even work on my computer, even when I tried multiple browsers.

Stick With USANA's YouTube Channel

Want your USANA prospects to actually be able to view the USANA prospecting videos? Then stick with USANA's YouTube Channel over the video library in the Hub's Communication Edge. It's NOT completely mobile friendly!

Screenshot from my iPhone 5s. Notice the line through the play button? It won't play!

This is a HUGE deal. Every year, more and more people are viewing video on their smartphones and tablets. Some market research even indicates that people now watch more video on their phones and tablets then they do on their computers.

There's a few other technical reasons I don't recommend using it as well, but it would put you to sleep. Just understand, YouTube is where it's at.

"But I can't track what my prospect's view on YouTube?" You're right. I can tell you it's better to actually have your prospect view the video rather then them having a dead video on their iPhone.  For the average USANA Associate, detailed tracking (known as analytics) is completely unnecessary. Almost every USANA Associate that I've worked with needs to focus on their USANA communication skill, rather then having more detailed tracking.

Having trouble finding a video on USANA's YouTube channel? As far as I know, USANA has every video in its library also on YouTube. I've never had a problem finding the video I wanted to share. Click the "Magnifying Glass" icon across USANA's YouTube channel to search for only USANA videos. Look at the screenshot below to see exactly what I'm talking about.

Avoid the eCards!

I've never liked USANA's eCards, or another platform or system with similar features, for the simple fact that dramatically hurt deliverability performance! At Integritas Group we have spent tens of thousands of dollars over the years just on enhancing our email deliverability. I share that fact to stress that I speak from persona experience. There's an amazing amount of computers working behind the scenes to deliver email to people around the went. Guess what? They favor emails sent from a person's personal email address over a system sending it out on your behalf.

Integritas Group is actually in the process of reprogramming our entire system so it can work hand-in-hand with a person's own email address. In a nutshell, it will increase the email deliverability rate, while saving people money. For 99% of distributors, there will no longer be a need to use any auto responder system. More details in a few weeks.

Just remember, it's best to use your personal email account to send out emails. Don't use your USANA.com email address! Use your Gmail or Yahoo or whatever you have.

Technology is Not The Be-All and End-All

I want this section to carry weight with you. Remember, I have a tremendous amount of technology, knowledge, and resources available to me. We devote a lot of time, effort and resources developing our technology. The technology is only as good as the USANA Associate's skills!

All to often I see USANA Associates on Facebook or whom I speak with on the phone talk how much time they've invested or money spent on this or that technology and how much it'll change their USANA business. Yet, the person doesn't even have the basic money making skills of behind able to handle an objection or have a good conversation. Remember, your USANA business will live or die by your USANA Communication skills, among other skills.

Technology is an extension of your skills. If you have great USANA money making skills, then technology can help you get even greater results. For the most part, the average USANA Associate lacks real USANA money making skills (this based off the hundreds of people I've talked with over the years.)

I share all this as a reminder that you need to develop your own USANA money making skills. Technology is no replacement for solid skills! If you haven't read our Complete Networker ebook, then do so ASAP. Click here to download a free copy.

Looking Forward

I'm excited about the changes USANA is rolling out with the Hub. You should be too. Keep in mind that it will take to fully rollout and get all the bugs out. There will be a portion of the USANA Hub that I use in the future. The updates to the "Team Manager" section look fabulous. However, I'm not relying on their contact manager or system in order to build my business.

Look, USANA does a tremendous job at creating and manufacturing products. They are world class because they have the background in those areas. They don't have the background in technology and building the USANA business. They are not distributors! They are not in the "trenches" with us when it comes to building the business. It's nothing against them, it's just the situation.

If you're looking for solid marketing and contact management system for your USANA business, then make sure you stick with Integritas Group. We're constantly updating our system to meet the needs of changing needs and to help us better build our own USANA business. We're in the "trenches" with you.

Are You Building a Glass House in USANA?

What businesses have more stores or franchises than customers?

I can't think of any...except for the network marketing industry.

Stop and think about this for a minute, because this concept could be the difference between building a glass house with USANA and building a long term income.

Here's a very simple question that you will give the answer: Do you have more Preferred Customers or Associates in your organization?

If you answered more Associates, then you may be building a glass house.

Many leaders and training courses around the MLM industry never mention customers as part of building a business. If customers are mentioned, it's usually in an after-the-fact manner to get someone if they first turn down the business opportunity. It's all about "recruiting, recruiting, and recruiting in order to build a big income." Yes, recruiting is an important component to building a USANA business, but so is getting customers!

"But my downline are my customers!" No, they are not. They are your salesforce. What happens when that person stops building or doesn't make money, do they stay on the products? Usually no. If they are taking the products with the hopes of making money, then they are not real customers! A real customer takes the product because they want the benefit of the product.

Now I'm not saying that one cannot build a successful business through just recruiting. But building a business with a strong customer focus is much more duplicatable then a business focused recruiting. I've trained my fair share of Associates and I can tell you that it's much easier to teach someone how to sell a RESET kit then it is to sell the business opportunity. As new Associates sell products and get customers, they gain confidence and start believing in themselves and that they really can build a strong USANA business! This new confidence then comes across to people and helps with recruiting new Associates.

Yet, I talk with other Associates around USANA who only focus on recruiting and they complain to me about having little duplication and that their new Associates are quitting within the first 60 days. One of the main reasons this happens is because people are not having success with the "recruit, recruit, and recruit", mentality. Very few people can do that.

You can keep doing that (which in my mind is the equivalent of punching the wall trying to get into the next room rather then using the door) or you can build with "business common sense" by getting customers.

To Jason Wells and I, having more customers than Associates is just "business common sense," but to many people, it's a paradigm shift. If you want to incorporate "business common sense" into your USANA business and not build a glass house, then do these two things:
Note: The Customer Endorsement training is accessible with any paid subscription at Integritas Group.

You've heard the quote, "People who live in a glass house should not throw stones." It's good advice. Here's the problem when it comes to glass houses and your USANA business: Someone will throw a stone (more likely dozens and dozens of stones) at USANA at some point in the future. Most likely they will not be directed at your personally, but USANA as a whole.

In my 10 year career with USANA, I've been through two experience where people didn't just throw stones, but rather 500 pound boulders at USANA. USANA survived, but I saw many leaders' glass houses shatter into thousands of pieces, along with their income!. Quite a few of those people had to go back into the work force or move onto something else. Fortunately, I built a solid USANA business. My business got some dings and dents, but that was about it.

Are you building a glass house with USANA?

USANA Prospecting: Why My Friends and Family List is So Small.....

This week I want to discuss one of the most common obstacles that people create for themselves when building USANA.

Note: Any link to the USANA Bootcamp or 5-2-2 will require at least a Free Entry Level account in Integritas Group.

First, to give you an overview, I am going to be using the 5-2-2 method that we discuss in our USANA Bootcamp and second we’ll put focus on our 5-2-2 document.

In particular the subject of this training is going to focus on one question that is the most common obstacle in the 5-2-2 itself: “What if I don’t have that many people to add to my Integritas Group Contact Manager?”  This question applies to people when they start entering their “5” in the 5-2-2 and realize they don’t know a lot of people (when they actually do).

When people don’t have enough people in their circle of influence (friends, family, and people they run across), I know there are two main issues that cause this.

Problem #1

People honestly don’t know how to gather and think of all the people they know, so there is a simple solution.

Solution for Problem #1

If you just added all the people you have in your cell phone to the system (those would be phone number contacts), then you added all your Facebook contacts (any people that you already added from your cell phone would have their contact record edited to add the Facebook information), and finally, you would add everyone on your email list (again, anyone already added on your cell phone and Facebook would have their contact record edited to add the email address).

So now you have people with phone contacts, Facebook and/or email address contacts.  Before I explain how you’ll organize them, I just want to say that I will explain how to make this process so easy and unscary, that you’ll never look at contacting the people you know about USANA as a scary or weird process again.

First, the phone contact people are ready to go for the 5-2-2 process, so you can start applying the 5-2-2 process while remembering the Connect and Develop steps of our Communication Training.

Second, the people who you only have Facebook and email address information should be Developed (see our Communication Training) to the point where it feels appropriate to connect on the phone by exchanging phone numbers.

Finally, you want to eventually have everyone contact information to the point where you can have a conversation.  So, a phone number, Skype address, Google Hangout or any other why you can actually have a conversation is what you’re shooting for.

Problem #2

The thought of you wanting me to make a list of people and put them into my system is scary, so part of this is that I am afraid I am going to have to call these people and it doesn’t feel natural.  So, I am either not doing Solution #1 above, because of that fear or I am only putting a small number of people that I am not as afraid to contact as much as others.

Solution for Problem #2

Do you want to know why you have this problem?  Because there is a serious misunderstanding as to what you’re going to be doing with your contact list in the system.

We ARE NOT calling people with intention of discussing USANA from a product or business standpoint.  Listen, I know that you have built USANA a bit and/or been in other MLM companies, you’ve been told to make a list of your friends and family and then your upline talks to them or you are told to just contact them and tell them about USANA.  As a friend of mine explained to me (with his experience with friends in other MLM companies), “it felt dirty” when my friend from years ago contacted me “out of the blue.”

So what ARE we doing?  You have doing the Develop step in our Communication Training.  You are continuing, building, or rebuilding your relationships with the people in your system.  Use USANA as an excuse to get out of this digital age of having less conversations with the people that matter to us over the years (who we aren’t staying in touch with, because of technology and distractions).

That’s it.  Just talk to people on a scheduled and planned process with no agenda.

The Big Question

If I am just talking to people without mentioning USANA, then how am I building USANA?

Because the best sales people and communicators know that it takes relationships to develop sales opportunities.

If you use the Develop step to build the relationship and you have enough meaningful conversations (see the 5-2-2 document), people are going to naturally say things that will raise a red flag that USANA might be an answer from a business or product perspective.

Just let it happen.  Don’t force it.

Conclusion

All you need to do is 5 people a day to your Integritas Group contact manager.  Initially in the first couple of weeks, people enter more people, because their calling time is less because they don’t have enough contacts in their system.

Then, you call your list of people until you reach two people a day and have a meaningful conversation.  Not about USANA, but about them and a bit about you. Just have a natural conversation and connect them.  That’s it.

Trust the process and it will yield you USANA opportunities and at the very least, you build stronger relationships.

Questions or Clarification?

Please ask questions on this, because if something doesn’t make sense, then it just delays you success.

You can post your questions by finding this training (includes the YouTube video and the blog link) on our Facebook page and posting the question on that training post.

New USANA Presentation Tool from Integritas Group

In the last couple of weeks, I have been working hard with our programming team to come up with a simple way to Introduce the USANA business to your contacts who have been developed to the point where trey are ready to learn more about USANA.

With the changes in technology and our Social Media culture, our research is showing that more and more USANA contacts just want to look at information and basically have the ability to click around. The solution on the surface is that you could send them to USANA.com, but there is so much information there, they can get lost.  We tried to balance this need with controlling the content in such a way that we could give our contacts the most common information that they need to make a decision on joining USANA.

I am not going to spend a lot of time writing in this blog article, because it's important that you watch the YouTube video, so you can see how it works.  The only people who will be able to use and test it are people with a Business Builder level or higher access in the Integritas Group system, because this website is tied to the contact manager.

So if you don't have an account at that level, you'll need to see how it works, you'll need to watch the YouTube video that goes along with this blog article in order to get the full value out of this blog update.

USANA Accountability: Road to Gold Activity Form FAQ's

Since releasing the Road to Gold Activity Form (which you access through your Integritas Group account by logging in -> Training -> Resources -> Miscellaneous -> Road to Gold Activity Form) we've received a few questions.

Question: "I don't have much to report, should I still fill it out?"

Answer: Yes! Even if you're reporting zero activity fill it out. It'll give an accurate report to your USANA mentor on what you're doing or not doing in your business. Reporting little or no activity is not fun for anyone and will anger you to not have future reports with little or no activity.

Question: "I’m focusing on other things that don’t really fit into the form. Do I still need to fill it out?"

Answer: Yes! More likely than not, what you're doing can still be reported on the form. If you're not sure how, please read the other questions or ask your USANA mentor to get an understanding on how to fill it out. Still fill it out and attach other notes or activities on another piece of paper.

Question: "I’m not sure what type of contacts to include in the 'Five a Day' section."

Answer: It's any new contact that you enter in the system or is automatically added by the system (such as a lead from a marketing website.) Some examples are friends you input into the system, new people you meet and input into the system, leads coming off of your website or another marketing website, and people who have called you off of an advertisement that you enter into the system.

Question: "I didn’t do my 'Target 2' from the previous week? What do I do?"

Answer: Under the "Target 2" section in the document, there is a line that reads "Who are the people who you have identified as "Target 2" in previous weeks and haven’t approached yet?" Put the people who did not contact from the previous week here. Do not 'recycle' your "Target 2" people from one week to the next. Your goal is to have at least two new "Target 2" people each week. If you're not connecting with your "Target 2" people it means there is something stopping with you. Make sure you work with your USANA mentor and discuss those people.

Question:  "I did my “Target 2” from the previous week. What do I do with them?"

Answer: They are either interested or not interested in learning more. If they are not interested in learning more about business or products, then cross them off your list and move on. If they are interested in the business or products, then you move them to your "Hot List" since they are in the Follow-Up or Close steps. If they signed up as an Associate or PC, then make a note of it in the "New Associates and PC's" section on the form.

Question:  "Can I 'target' more than two people?"

Answer: Absolutely! "Targeting two" people is the minimum you need to be doing on a weekly basis. As you improve your USANA skills, your business grows, and more contacts are your in pipeline, you should be 'targeting' more than two people each week.

USANA Mentorship: Treat Your USANA Business Like a "Business."

I am sure you have heard the statement over and over: "If you want success in USANA, you need to start treating USANA like a business instead of a hobby."

I can see that this statement is helpful to people on surface, because when you analyze its meaning it sends the message to people on the right attitude to have.  However, what is treating your business like a business?  I can go into the daily things you need and I have in these trainings as well as our Integritas Group courses that are found in the paid membership levels of our system; however, that doesn't address the mental attitude you need to have towards USANA which is what is held in the essence of the statement above.

Let me explain this way:  I was having a conversation with a downline the other day about the difference between full-time and part-time in USANA.  I think a lot of part-timers have their normal every day jobs and then build USANA on the side.  A lot of the full-timers can relate to this, because a lot of us have been here before.  I think one of the things that the part-timers forget is that our USANA businesses IS our livelihood and it's how WE as full-timers make our living.  Yes.  A lot of the income is passive income, we have a lot of free time, because of the lifestyle it affords us. A lot of us make good money, but we have a bills and expenses like everyone else.  I bring this up, because the way we "full-timers" look at USANA is probably completely different.

When people in my team or our Road To Gold Focus Groups get feedback from me they may think at times that: "he's harsh."  By no means do I think people dislike me, but I am sure I upset people at times when I give them honest feedback on what I feel they need to do to build their business.  I have always said to my downline over the years this statement: "I would rather you hate me and getting checks than thinking I am a great guy while getting 'goose eggs'."  I am not a parent, but many parents in USANA have explained to me that my leadership is like good parenting.  You have to make tough decisions, give feedback, or create standards that your children aren't always going to like, but in the end it's what is best for them.

USANA Prospecting: "Under-Developing" or "Over-Developing" a Prospect.

In our Communication training in the Integritas Group system, we talk about the steps to the Communication Process (Connect, Develop, Introduce, Follow-Up, Close).

One of the most challenging steps is the Develop step, because that's where you create the possibilities to Introduce the USANA product or business.  People either struggle with this step, because knowing the right time to bring up USANA is an "art" learned with experience.

What I typically see is two types of people:

1) People who skip over the step and have no problem introducing USANA to people, but often Introduce USANA too soon.

or

2)  People who develop, develop, develop and miss opportunities to Introduce USANA.  Sometimes those people just need to pull the trigger and be a little more aggressive.

The first group of people don't have a lot of things stopping them emotionally (this is a lower percentage of people...probably 20%.)  They just go out and "do it" (by "do it," I mean Introduce USANA.)  This "make-it-happen" attitude often brings in volume and can vault these people into USANA commission checks quickly.

The danger is if they are Introducing USANA to people who aren't ready or don't want to hear about it, they could be damaging long-term USANA business.

The second group of people (about 80% of the people out there) over-develop people to the point where sometimes they are using the training and Develop steps as a shield from going out and Introducing USANA: "I didn't Introduce USANA, because it didn't seem like the right time...I need to Develop them more...." or "I need to do more training and learn more before I start talking to people about USANA..."

The danger of being in this group is that you never or very rarely Introduce USANA, so obviously your commission checks don't improve.  Then people who think (in USANA) that you don't need as much as training as we believe in say to Chris and I: "I told you so..you just need to get people to make a list and go out and do it.."

We don't agree with that, but when people get "stuck" and use a Communication process step as shield from doing something that they are afraid of (knowing or unknowingly), it legitimizes  what these skeptics to our training say.

Advice

If you are in the first group, then keep going out and there "doing it," but put a solid focus on  Developing your prospects and insuring they have a reason to hear to about the USANA business or products. Go back and listen to the Communication training and focus on the Develop step.

If you are in the second group, then it's time to start Introducing USANA even if you think it's not time, because whether it's the right time or not, the only way you are going to learn whether or not you are over-developing is to go and "do it."  If you end up Introducing too soon, then you can use that as a guide to find the right place to Introduce.  It's better to do that, because you are moving forward instead of getting stuck in place of endless of endless training or "I am going to talk to this person again..."

USANA Volume Report Training: Learn and Understand It!

With 10+ years experience in USANA, I take for granted how much I know about USANA's compensation plan and reading the volume report. Since I received great feedback on the USANA Compensation Plan: Checking Your Volumes blog post, I wanted to answer another common question: "What the heck do all the columns on the USANA Volume Report mean?"

In this blog post and video, I'll go through each column defining what the column means and how it impacts you. Refer to the image below.

PV Amt is short for Personal Volume Amount. Your auto order (AO) and any order your place on your .001 personal through the shopping cart appears in this column. Typically, the amount in this column never goes above 100 (to keep 1 business center active) or 200 (to keep all business centers active) points.

L Vol is short for Left Volume. This column represents all new volume (AO's processed, new Associates, new PC's and any Shop@USANA orders placed in your organization) for the left side of corresponding business center.

R Vol is short for Right Volume. This column represents all new volume (AO's processed, new Associates, new PC's and any Shop@USANA orders placed in your organization) for the right side of corresponding business center.

L CO is short for Left Carry Over. This column represents all the volume that you did not get paid out on the previous week on the left side of the corresponding business center. As long as you're on a 100 point or 200 point AO, the unused or "leftover" volume will carry forward to the next week. The volume will carry over indefinitely, as long as you stay on autoship.

R CO is short for Right Carry Over. This column represents all the volume that you did not get paid out on the previous week on the left side of the corresponding business center. As long as you're on a 100 point or 200 point AO, the unused or "leftover" volume will carry forward (hence carry over) to the next week. The volume will carry over indefinitely, as long as you stay on autoship.

Left Total is the sum of L Vol and L CO. Think of it like this: L Vol + L CO = Left Total. This is the total volume in your business for the week.

Right Total is the sum of R Vol and R CO. Think of it like this: R Vol + R CO = Right Total. Look at the volume report example above on the .001 business row. 170 (R Vol) + 252 (R CO) = 422 (Right Total).

Left AO is short for Left Auto Order. This column represents the total points of Auto Orders that have processed for the week on the corresponding business center. The amount is included in the L Vol amount. USANA added this column recently when they upgraded the comp plan to include a bonus for building up a strong base of AO's.

Right AO is short for Right Auto Order. This column represents the total points of Auto Orders that have processed for the week on the corresponding business center. The amount is included in the R Vol amount. USANA added this column recently when they upgraded the comp plan to include a bonus for building up a strong base of AO's. You'll notice in the example above that the R Vol of 170 is equal to 170 in the Right AO.

CVP is short for Commission Volume Points. This column represents the base of your commission check for the week. Depending on what marketing you're in, you'll need to adjust it accordingly to your currency. In the U.S. 1 CVP = $1. In other markets, there is typically a multiplier applied to convert to the currency.

% Home SVP is short for the Percentage of Sales Volume Points based in your Home market. This USANA's International Exchange Rate Rule. Unless you have an international business, you don't need to worry about this at all. It's a mechanism USANA has in place to adjust payouts based on currency changes. When your business grows internationally, it only affects you if more than 50% of your sales comes from somewhere else.

That's the breakdown of the columns in USANA's Volume Report.

USANA Prospecting: Prospects Should Always Be Looking at Something...

In recent weeks, I have had several downline members who are fairly new to building USANA with "attitude" at which Chris and I build it make some major mistakes in the prospecting.  So you know, this is covered in more detail in our Communication Training under Follow-Up and Close sections of the course.   That said, I don't think people can hear this too much.

Mistake #1:

Once a contact is targeted to be Developed further (either a person the downline knows personally who has said something that makes USANA appropriate from a product or business standpoint) or a lead generated from a lead cooperative who is looking for information, the person doesn't set a follow-up time to talk, so they are "dangling out there" without any action, homework, or something to do to move them through the Communication Process.

Let's use the Anti Suit Entrepreneur marketing method as an example.  You get a lead from the lead cooperative or a friend of yours says they want to do something for themselves, but they don't know where to start.  Either way, a person has reach for something that the Anti Suit Entrepreneur process can Develop before you Introduce them to USANA.

The Wrong Way

You talk to them about the Anti Suit Entrepreneur, you have a nice conversation, and that's it.  It's like you are waiting for them to say to you...how do I learn more about this?  Can you tell me where to go? They aren't going to do that, because they cannot read your mind. They don't know what you have to show them, so they think you are just having a conversation about this subject without any objective in mind.

The Right Way (If you don't make Mistake #2 while doing it "the right way")

You have a conversation and you mention the Anti Suit Entrepreneur and you set a follow-up time to talk about it further. Maybe it's coffee, maybe it's a phone call at a better time; it can fall into all kinds of situations.   Although you set a follow-up time, you're not quite there unless you give them something to review.  I have had a lot of downline say..."Jason, it was a great conversation and I remember to set a follow-up time to talk to them..."  My response is that's great, but what are they looking at in the meantime before you talk next and what are you going to talk about?  "Aahhhh...I thought I did it right..."  That brings me to Mistake #2.

Mistake #2:

When you have a conversation with a contact and develop them to the point where you targeting them to move in the direction of the Introduce step (see Communication Training), you need to get them to engage in the process and the only way to do it that is use the tools to help you Develop them.  Again, using our Anti Suit Entrepreneur marketing method as an example, let's talk right and wrong.

The Wrong Way

Setting a follow-up to talk or worse yet, not setting up anything, so you are essentially making Mistake #1 and Mistake #2.

The Right Way

You have that great conversation, you set a follow-up; but now, you set the follow-up at a time when they indicate they will have a chance to review the information you are about to give them.  "When would you have a chance to look at that?"  Then you set the appointment accordingly.  In the Anti Suit Entrepreneur example, you could give them the Three Steps process off of the website. You can email to them with your own custom link that sends to you in the Integritas Group system.

Now, we begin to educate them and warm them up to the concept of network marketing by starting with the Three Steps videos.

Avoiding Mistake #1 and Mistake #2

By doing it the "Right Way" discussed in Mistake #1 and Mistake #2, you have someone looking at information and will help you Develop them in the direction of the Introduce where USANA be discussed by letting the tools do the work. You will be moving people in a forward direction by getting a follow-up time to talk.

If you do this enough, you will begin to sign up more distributors and more customers.

Acting Like Building USANA vs. Really Building USANA

There are a lot of people who look at the leaders in USANA and I think deep down inside they wonder if they are going to get to the level even though they are perfectly capable of doing so.

Why is this?  Well, sometimes I think people feel that those people up on stage had a little luck, maybe they have talents that they don’t have, or maybe, just maybe they know that those people just worked harder and they know they need to work harder. If you are the example, then that’s good, because that is where you need to start.

One of the problems that I personally see with people is that they very involved in USANA: 1) They love the products, never miss a day; 2) They always attend convention; 3) Always attend weekly / monthly events, conference calls, webinars, and trainings.  The problem is they never really build USANA.  They think they are building USANA because so much of their life is USANA.  I can understand that.  The truth is they are “acting like they are building” USANA.

I think this is the number one reason why most people go to convention year in, year out in the same place income and rank and wonder why they are that way.  Maybe they don’t wonder, but if they don’t, they should.

You need to love the products, attend convention, and when the weekly / monthly training doesn’t conflict with prospecting, attend those, but you also need to do business building activities.

Something we do in our Road To Gold Focus Groups and with our own downline is ask some questions:

Is Everything Really "Great" in Your USANA business?

Earlier this week Jason Wells and I hosted an Anti Suit Entrepreneur online seminar about "Don't Drink the Positivity Kool-Aid!" This is a topic based on one of the chapters in the book. After I hosted the seminar, it made me think of how some USANA Associates fall into the "positivity trap."

Over the years I've worked with quite a few of USANA Associates, both in and out of my downline. When I ask how is their USANA business doing, many reply along the lines of "Everything is going great! I had this awesome prospect the other day. I'm totally pumped and motivated!" They spend a few minutes giving my "updates" that has more filler words (great, awesome, etc) then actual information.

I love the enthusiasm, but as their mentor, their updates don't give me much to work with so I can help them! I typically spend a few minutes digging deeper and asking more questions to get to specific details about conversations and scenarios so I can help them. I dig deeper, because I've seen way too many Associates over the years spin their tires and not move their business forward because they're drinking the "positivity kook-aid."

As you are probably aware, there's a culture in network marketing where one always has to be "positive and never focus on the negative or bad things." That culture is just plain stupid because people don't grow their businesses that way. You think the executives at USANA corporate, when faced with an unexpected issue (such as, a raw materials supplier starts providing subpar materials) tell each other, "It's all good. Everything is great and awesome! Our product was rated #1 last year." Of course they don't! One of the reasons USANA has such great products and manufacturing standards is because they are realist and deal with issues.

That brings me to my question, "Are you drinking the positivity kool-aid or actually facing the issues that are holding you back from building a successful USANA business?" This is a tough question to answer. I ask it because it frustrates me when I see people spinning their wheels in USANA, but constantly tell me "Everything is great!"

Stay positive. Stay motivated. But don't drink the "positivity kook-aid" and neglect dealing with issues. Don't put on "Everything is great!" face when you're working with your mentor.
I'm a positive person. But, when something I'm doing is not getting the results I want in my business, I'm honest with myself, analyze the situation and deal with it. I still spin my wheels every once now-and-then, but I don't do it for months or years.

If you're working with a mentor or mastermind group, it's okay to be honest when you're having trouble or frustrated at a situation. Tell your mentor or mastermind group so they can help you. Getting feedback and helping you improve is the main reason you work with a mentor or mastermind group. After years of people asking us, that's why we put together The Road To Gold Focus Groups. They allow us to work with people who are tired of spinning their wheels and want to grow their business.

How To Re-Engage Your USANA Downline with ASE

Since the release of the ASE book, quite a few USANA Associates have used it to successfully re-engage their USANA downline. If you’ve built a team, you’ve had people drop off for a variety of reasons. Using the ASE book and website can help you get some of those people back on board and building USANA. This post and video will walk through some different strategies.

Read the ASE book with a Highlighter and Pen

As you read the book, you’ll think of various USANA downline that can relate a topic of chapter. Use the highlighter and highlight the content and write the person’s name and any notes on the page. You’ll also think of potential USANA Associates as well. Write down their names and highlight the section. Now, you want to get in touch with the person and connect the person with the concept from ASE book.

Here’s an example email:

[USANA Associate], I just finished the ASE book written by some fellow USANA Associates. The book’s theme is about entrepreneurship and living life on your terms. The authors share advice on becoming successful entrepreneurs. I picked a few tidbits that I’ll incorporate into my business.

There was chapter on “Diversified Cash flow” and it made me think of you because I know that was a main reason you got into USANA. The book has a unique take on the concept of residual income and “diversified cash flow.” It’s definitely worth the read.

[Note: You can loan them the book if they are local or send them your marketing link to the order page of the book. To get the link, log into your Integritas Group account -> Marketing -> Choose ASE under “Marketing Methods” -> “Order Book” link.]

The authors also created a marketing funnel called “The Three Steps to Success.” The purpose is to share it with potential USANA Associates. You should watch so you know what the book is about. Watch it here:

[Note Marketing -> Choose ASE under “Marketing Methods” -> “Three Steps to Success” link.]

I know you haven’t been real active in USANA lately, which is fine. I did want to reach out to you and let you know that I’m “kicking my business up a notch.” It’s easier to grow (and more fun) when working with others, so I wanted to reach out to you.

Check out the videos, read the book, and let’s talk about building USANA to live life on your terms.

--- End example ---

Variation for an Email Blast

Depending on the size of your team and who is in your USANA downline, you may send out all personalized emails or none. I recommend taking the time to send out a personalized email (and even calling them!) for all of your personally sponsored Associates. You can do an email blast through DLM is you have a big team or don’t have a personal relationship with everyone in your team. If you do, make the appropriate adjustments to the email.

Be Sure to Use Your Marketing Link

Make sure you use your marketing link from Integritas Group. Anyone who visits the ASE website through your link will be tagged to you. Who knows who in your downline will opt-in or plug into the seminar series. If you need help on getting your link, watch the video. If you still need help, leave a comment below and we’ll do our best to help you out.

All Integritas Group accounts (even the free ones) allow you to generate your personal marketing links. Create your account today at www.integritas-group.com/join

Playing the Long-Game: Develop, THEN Introduce, Follow-Up, Close

It’s been a while since I covered concepts in our Communication training in a while.  I wanted to go over it again for all you using a real-world situation.

A perfect example was this last week.  Almost 2 years ago, I met a guy through my girlfriend at the time.  We ended up talking about entrepreneurship and eventually USANA, so I had developed him properly and introduced USANA to him.

After talking a bit over a period of time, we both concluded it wasn’t the right time for him, but he was a really solid guy with business experience (he ran a business in the past.)

Last week, I saw him post something on Facebook about being uninspired by what he was doing.  I messaged him on Facebook and suggested he buy the Anti Suit Entrepreneur book and watch the Three Steps to Success.  He bought the book, watched the videos, and started doing the homework at the end of the chapters.

Once I saw that, I messaged him and setup a time this last Saturday to catch up.  We talked and caught up for a bit.  He brought up USANA again and we discussed it a bit.  He concluded that this was something he wanted to do and he felt ready.

He actually said another person approached him about USANA in the last year, but he didn’t feel comfortable with their way of the building the business (No Develop Step); in addition, he said they had no training when he asked how he was going to build the business.  Finally, he said, “I remember something…you told me that you felt I wasn’t ready then and I really felt like you had my best interests at heart.  That’s what impressed me with you and how you build USANA.”

So, what are the lessons to learn from this:

1) If you use Communication training correctly, you can properly Develop people and Introducing USANA is easy.

2) Notice, I used the Anti Suit Entrepreneur book and Three Steps to Success videos just like Chris and I have been preaching to you.  It worked, because it helped rekindle and Develop a person.

3) I setup an appointment to catch up and I introduced USANA and followed up all in one shot.

4) He closed himself; I didn’t close him.  I simply asked him his timeline on getting started and he said a couple of weeks. I explained that their are packages, a custom pack, and individual product orders over a six week period that can add up to the required points.  He said he would do the custom pack.

5) I played the long-game. I just didn't try to "sign him up," because in this case, he wasn't my Core 4, he wasn't ready.  It just didn't make sense in this situation for him.

I sent him an email on what he asked for:

1) Custom pack information
2) Price List
3) Customer Catalog

Finally, I sent him to the Integritas Group enrollment page, so he could enroll in the Free Entry level access of the system (which includes the Phase I training).  He can start doing the Phase I training while he is getting his ducks in the row to get started in a couple of weeks.

It can be that simple.  You just have stay focused on having two solid conversations a day with people in your list (the “2” in the 5 / 2).  I used my tools: if you’re not using the Anti Suit Entrepreneur book with people on in our contact manager, then I am not sure what to say to you. You’re missing  out.

I want to leave you with this one last thing:  He said what impressed him the most about USANA dealing with me was Integritas Group;  he couldn’t believe how organized we were, the amount of training we had, and the resources available to him, so he could build his own USANA business.

New Phase I Training & Marketing Enhancements for Your USANA Business

I wanted to focus this week's training on some new enhancements to Integritas Group.  There are two enhancements: the Marketing tab in the system and the other is the Phase I training.

First, we made some enhancements to the marketing tab:

With the Anti Suit EntrepreneurMLMCompletePackage as well as future marketing methods (including customer and business marketing methods), people have had a need to provide links to various pages on the marketing websites to give to people.  Knowing what link to give and making sure you put your Invitation Code (the code that makes sure your contacts go to you through a website that everyone uses) in the link is challenging for many.  Usually, only the "internet geeks" can figure it, so we added this section (only Anti Suit Entrepreneur right now, but others will follow in the coming weeks) that will allow to simply copy and paste a link to the page you want to send your prospects to and the link takes care of the rest. It will:

1) Send your prospect to the desired page, video, or area on the website you them to see.
2) Make sure your Invitation Code gets attached to your prospect for now and the future (they can leave the website and come back again)
3) Track your overall clicks for each, so you have an idea of the activity on that link.

It's that simple.

Second, we made some enhancements to the Phase I training.

We added a New Welcome to Integritas Group and USANA video which is short and sweet and welcomes your future downline to the community.

USANA Lead Cooperative Success Stories & Learning Experiences

I wanted share a couple of Lead Coop stories. Both are solid success stories, but I wanted to use them as a learning tool for all of you out there when contacting people particularly internet contacts.

First, one our coop members who is getting leads through our MLM Complete Package cooperative (which is only available to our own downline, Road To Gold Focus Group members and/or the Looking Over Our Shoulders Private Group).

This website assists other people in the network marketing community outside of USANA while building relationships with them (the idea being that a certain percentage of people could be looking for a new company down the road leading to strong future leads. Some will, some won't. Either way, it's good, because our members earn marketing credits for course sales to other network marketers while building relationships with them.) The marketing funnel starts with our book (currently an ebook order from our website, but this will be released on Paperback and Kindle very soon with a new MLMCompletePackage.com website facelift.)

So, one our coop members followed the training in the corresponding Marketing Method as well as strict compliance to our CRM Manual and used Integritas Group Contact Manager.

As a result, he got a lead from another MLM company who was a solid guy. He loves his company and that's fine, but you never know what could happen down the road and a relationship has been built. This coop member assisted the guy and he eventually purchased a $500 course package. Of that, this person gained $250 in marketing credits that are deposited into his Integritas Group account that is free marketing to market USANA through this lead coop, the Anti Suit Entrepreneur coop, or any future coop we release (we have product ones coming soon.)

The point is that he followed the methodology and it yielded results.

Second, we had a coop member who has been doing consistent marketing on our Anti Suit Entrepreneur coop which is awesome. So first, this marketing is yielding here leads from the direct traffic that she is doing with our marketing coop. But here's the cool part. One of her website visitors that is "tagged" to her bought the book on Kindle.

Target 2: Put Laser Focus Into Your USANA Business

We’re getting towards the end of another year, so it’s a great time to reflect on a few things.

Over the last couple of years, Chris Lopez and I have put emphasis on the Develop step in our Communication training that is our Integritas Group system for USANA.  We have had a ton of people who have had changes in their business and they approach people completely change leading to more customers and USANA associates.

I want to take this Develop step one step further especially if you are someone who has been doing for a while.  The concept I’m about to introduce can also apply to many of you who aren’t familiar with our training.  This is something I have been doing with my own downline. I call it Target 2.
